Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC Patna) operates under the administrative control of National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (NILD), Kolkata, which functions under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
CRC Patna was established with the primary objective of catering to the rehabilitation needs of persons with disabilities (PwDs) in Bihar and neighbouring states. Its mission is to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services, including clinical, educational, and vocational interventions, along with conducting training programs for professionals and functionaries in the field of rehabilitation. As a resource center, it focuses on raising awareness, facilitating accessibility, and fostering inclusion in the community.
The key activities of CRC Patna include:
- Providing therapeutic services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychological counseling.
- Designing and fabricating assistive devices and aids for PwDs.
- Offering skill development programs to enhance employability and independence of PwDs.
- Conducting public education programs to spread awareness about disability-related issues and government schemes.
- Collaborating with various stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, and parent associations, to ensure a holistic approach to rehabilitation.
In alignment with NILD Kolkata, CRC Patna is committed to empowering individuals with disabilities by delivering quality services and promoting an inclusive society where PwDs can lead dignified and independent lives.
As per Census 2011, 2.68 crore PwDs, accounting for 2.21% of India’s population, face challenges in accessibility and inclusion. The RPwD Act, 2016 recognizes 21 types of disabilities, including Locomotor, Visual, Hearing Impairments, Intellectual Disabilities, and more.
At CRC Patna, we focus on implementing programs that promote accessibility, skill development, education, and rehabilitation, aiming to create an inclusive environment for PwDs to lead fulfilling lives.
